Macquarie University (MU) is a large, public university with more than 39,000 students. It is recognized as an outstanding leader in higher education in Australia, and ranks in the top 2% of universities in the world by Academic Ranking of World Universities. It has a thriving international student population, making it one of the most international Universities in the world. The campus offers a wide range of services to support students in their academic endeavors, as well as a vibrant campus life. Students will be engaged in academic courses along with Australian and other international students.
Location
Macquarie University is located in North Ryde, 30 minute drive, or 45 minutes by public transportation, northwest of Sydney Harbor and the Sydney central business district. You will enjoy the best of both worlds with many activities offered in Sydney’s booming city life, as well as the relaxing nearby beaches and Sydney harbor. This vibrant city offers a little something for everyone. MU is connected to the city by underground rail with its own dedicated train station.
Based on the Economist Intelligence Unit's "Safe Cities Index," for 2015, Sydney is ranked the 6th safest city in the world. It is also considered one of the best student cities. Sydney serves as the economic and financial hub of Australia and hosts regional headquarters for around 500 multinational companies.

Housing and Meals
Macquarie University offers accommodation to all exchange students. Students have a choice of on-campus housing or nearby apartments. There are a variety of housing options to choose from and a wide range of costs. Many past exchange participants have recommended the Macquarie University Village apartments; however, the choice is up to you.

Note: Students must take a minimum of 4 courses at MU during the semester in order to maintain full-time status. Most MU courses will transfer back to GVSU as 3 credits.
