What is the GVSU TRIO Training and Empowerment Center ?

The GVSU TRIO Training and Empowerment Center is a federally-funded project that provides professional development events to TRIO project personnel from across the nation. The TRIO Training Center is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and holds online webinars and in-person professional learning events that are lead by a team of nationally recognized experts in TRIO project management and service delivery and that address Absolute Priority #4: Student Financial Aid, Admissions, and Financial/Economic Literacy.

The TRIO Training and Empowerment Center will be providing Absolute Priority Training 4 for the 2024-25 academic year through virtual and in-person professional learning opportunities. Dates and registration will be coming shortly once confirmed by the U.S. Department of Education.

Speakers and Trainers for the event include Grand Valley State University leadership staff, TRIO directors and consultants, and other experts in the field.

Absolute Priority Training 4 will develop and grow skills surrounding admissions operations, financial aid, financial and economic literacy, and general TRIO and U.S. Department of Education knowledge. By increasing their qualifications and skills, training participants will be more qualified and adept at the following:

  1. Being familiar with federal financial aid applications, financial literacy services, and admissions best practices and
  2. Using this knowledge in daily service delivery.

When staff skills are increased in these domains, they are more likely to be able to deliver model services to their students and clients. As a result of their participation, participants’ knowledge and understanding of Federal TRIO Programs will be increased, within the context of project objectives and topics, and the use of this knowledge in daily project management.
