The GVSU TRIO Upward Bound (UB) Detroit program is designed to assist high school students from traditionally underserved backgrounds reach their potential by earning a college degree. UB serves high school students from low-income families and who are first-generation college students (their parents did not graduate from college with a bachelor's degree), and primarily supports students at University Prep District High Schools.
We're here to help students build the academic skills, motivation, and self-confidence they need for success in a college setting. How do we do this? We do this by providing fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance, including a variety of services.
UB Detroit provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their high school performance, and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. What are you waiting for?
We provide fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. All services are provided at no cost to participants.

As part of TRIO Upward Bound Detroit, participants may be involved in a number of activities depending on the student's grade, including professional development, conferences, internships, and community involvement.

An individual is eligible to participate with the GVSU TRIO Upward Bound Detroit program if the individual meets all of the participant requirements.
Participants should be enrolled in (or plan to enroll in) University Prep District High Schools (UPREP) University Prep Academy, University Prep Art & Design, and University Prep Science & Math in Detroit, Michigan, be potentially a first-generation college student, and/or meet the income guidelines.
