When is the Next Election?
November 5, 2024 - National Election Day
- Online registration deadline: Monday, October 21, 2024
- Register by mail deadline: Must be postmarked by Monday, October 21, 2024
- In person registration deadline: Tuesday, November 5, 2024
*Starting July 23rd, 2024, voters can register in person at their city or township clerk’s office through Election Day.
*In Michigan, you can register at any time up to 8 p.m. on Election Day at your city or township clerk’s office.
*Early voting just began this year. Typically, MI offers 9 days. The early voting period begins the second Saturday prior to Election Day and ends the Sunday before an election.
- The first day of the mandatory early voting period begins Saturday, October 26 and goes through Sunday, Nov 3.

*You may be asked to show ID when you check in to vote. If you don’t have one, you can still vote. A student ID card from an accredited higher education institution is an acceptable form of photo identification. For more information visit the Department of State website here.

- For out-of-state students who wish to register and vote in Michigan, they will need to go to the Secretary of State's office (closest one to campus is in Hudsonville) with the proper identification materials to become a Michigan resident first.
Becoming a poll worker is an incredible way to be engaged in the voting process. It is a paid position!
Eligibility requirements to serve as an election inspector in Michigan are as follows:
- You must be at least 16 years of age.
- You must be a registered voter in Michigan if 18+ years of age. Individuals aged 16 – 17 must be a Michigan resident.
- You must not have a felony or election crime conviction.
- You must not be an election challenger, a candidate, a member of a candidate's immediate family, or a member of the local board of canvassers.
- You must affiliate with a political party. Party registration is not a requirement. Michigan law requires that election inspectors disclose political affiliation to ensure balanced staffing. Affiliating as “independent” or “unaffiliated” is not a legal option for an election inspector.
While not a requirement, Michigan election clerks are seeking individuals with the following skills to serve as election inspectors:
- Organization
- Management and supervising
- Customer service
- Project management
- Familiarity with technology, such as operation of computers and software.
