Kimboko Inclusion Award

Dr. Tonya Parker is the 2023 recipient of the Kimboko Inclusion Award. The Kimboko Inclusion Award recognizes faculty who have made significant contributions in outstanding teaching, distinctive scholarship or creative work, or noteworthy service in moving GVSU graduate education toward being a more diverse and inclusive community. The award recognizes the accomplishments of Dr. Priscilla Kimboko, GVSU’s first Graduate Dean, and represents her commitment to these values.

NATA Athletic Trainer Service Award

Dr. Brian Hatzel will receive the 2018 National Athletic Trainers' Association Athletic Trainer Service Award at this years convention.  The Athletic Trainer Service award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession as a volunteer at the local and state levels. ATSA recipients have been involved in professional associations, community organizations, grassroots public relations efforts and service as a volunteer athletic trainer. No other award, NATA or otherwise, is a prerequisite for eligibility for the ATSA.

CLAS Faculty Annual Service Award

Tonya Parker was awarded the CLAS Faculty Annual Service Award in 2017.  This award recognizes Dr. Parker’s extensive service to the University as a member of Faculty Senate where she serves as a member of the Executive Committee. 


GLATA 2017

Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association Outstanding Educator Award

The Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association awarded Brian Hatzel, Ph.D. the Outstanding Educator Award for 2017.  This award recognizes members who have significantly contributed to the education of GLATA members through academic presentations, published manuscripts or editorials, educational program development or other educational activities.  This award was presented on March 10, 2017 at the annual GLATA conference.

MATS 2015 Distinguished Athletic Trainer of the Year 

Dr. Brian Hatzel, associate professor of movement science, has been named the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society 2015 Distinguished Athletic Trainer of the Year. The honor recognizes role models in athletic training who exhibit outstanding contributions to the profession.
 

Dr. Hatzel has been a faculty member at Grand Valley since 2002. He received a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport sciences, and a doctorate in sports medicine and athletic training from the University of Florida. Hatzel received a master’s degree in biomechanics from Ball State University.
