Advising for Admitted MAT Athletic Training Students
Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their assigned Academic Advisor when scheduling coursework.
Assignment of Academic Advisor
Academic Advising plays an integral role in student success. Each Athletic Training Program Student admitted should be assigned a Faculty Advisor from the Athletic Training Program Faculty. Students not currently assigned an Athletic Training Faculty advisor are recommended to request a meeting with AT Faculty to ensure pre-MAT course requirements are met. Students who attend GVSU undergraduate programs may see a change in their academic advisor once admitted to the Master of Athletic Training degree.
Preparing For an Appointment
- Please anticipate your advising needs and make appointments early. Faculty schedules fill up quickly, especially during peak times such as prior to registration. Look to meet your faculty advisor during open office hours (posted online under ATP faculty directory and on each faculty member’s office door).
- Feel free to discuss academic and any non-academic issues relevant to your education with your advisor. The more we know, the better able we are to determine appropriate academic plans to meet your goals. This also includes clinical site placement concerns.
- Be prepared and come with written questions.
- If you wish to discuss scheduling, bring a tentative schedule created by yourself to the advising appointment.
