HST 343 - History of South Africa

Examines the political, social and economic history of South Africa from the late seventeenth century to the early 1990s. The course will analyze the forces that created modern South Africa, particularly European conquest and colonization; mineral discoveries; industrialization; Apartheid; religion and the Dutch Reformed Church, and African resistance. Offered fall semester of even numbered years. Prerequisite: HST 204, HST 235, or junior standing
