CLA 311 - Ancient Great Philosophers

A study of the origins of western thought from its earliest pre-socratic developments to the Hellenistic period, with central focus on the classical philosophers Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Focus will be on the philosophers' writings, but attention also will be given to context and tradition. Cross-listed with PHI 311. May be repeated for credit if content differs. Offered fall and winter semesters. Prerequisite: Prior work in philosophy or classics, or permission of the instructor.
