What is your current position and what do you find exciting about it?
I currently hold the position of Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Elmira College. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is the diverse opportunities I have to engage with students. As part of my responsibilities at this small private liberal arts institution, I instruct courses across several departments including Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Additionally, I serve as a mentor to student clubs, provide guidance to honor societies, and contribute to the Student Success Center, all of which enriches my professional experience.
How did your GVSU Chemistry/Biochemistry degree help you prepare for your position?
My degree from Grand Valley State University equipped me with a comprehensive array of courses spanning various academic disciplines beyond chemistry. A notable example includes a course focused on the historical study of witchcraft, which I recently leveraged in developing and teaching a new class at Elmira College titled "Witchcraft & Potions," featuring a field trip to Salem, MA, and covered how science was connected to the history of witchcraft.
