CLAS Professional Development Fund

- Amount: One grant per eligible person per fiscal year--$500
- Purpose: This PDF is designed to help defray the costs of attending or participating in professional job-related conferences, seminars/webinars, meetings or other development opportunities. The use of funds does not require the presentation of papers at a conference or conference committee participation.
- Eligibility: All staff (AP and PSS), affiliate and visiting faculty. Tenured/tenure-track and adjunct faculty are not eligible.
- Application Timing: Applications will be accepted prior to traveling and awarded on a rolling basis each fiscal year until funds are depleted.
- Of Note:
- Funding is limited to one award per fiscal year.
- Recipients will be notified within one week of applying.
- There is no retroactive funding.
Professional Development Fund
This PDF is designed to help defray the cost of participating in professional job-related conferences, seminars, webinars, meetings for staff within the college. Affiliate and visiting faculty members may utilize the PDF to support costs relevant to the faculty members' scholarship and teaching. Faculty can request the maximum amount available to use over the course of the academic year, with a final report on the use of funds due at the end of the academic year.
- All CLAS AP, PSS, Affiliate faculty and visiting faculty, full or part-time employees are eligible to apply.
- Eligible employees can apply for funding multiple times each year. Priority will be given to those that have not received awards in the current or prior year.
- If an applicant decides not to use their award, they must notify the Associate Dean for Budget and Staff Affairs before the date of the proposed event. If proper notification is not provided, the applicant may be ineligible for funding for the remainder of the fiscal year, as well as the next fiscal year.
The maximum award amount is $500. Funding is limited, provided on a first-come basis and is not guaranteed.
Applications will be accepted prior to traveling and awarded on a rolling basis each fiscal year until funds are depleted. Once funds have been depleted, applications will continue to be accepted, but applicants will be automatically added to a waitlist.
Applications will be accepted any time during the year as long as funds are available. Apply online and submit your final report through MyApps. Completion of the online CLAS PDF application form is required. After careful examination of each application to ensure that it aligns with the established guidelines and is supported by your unit head, awards will be funded on a first come, first served basis until funds are depleted. In the event of a cancellation, applications from the waiting list will be considered in the order in which they were submitted.

- Start Date: This is the start date of the conference, or if you are requesting materials, the date of your application.
- End Date: This is the end date of the conference, or if you are requesting materials, the date you will be finished with them (end of the semester, end of the year, etc.).
- Location: This is the location of the conference, or if you are requesting materials, you can enter N/A.
Each applicant that receives a CLAS AP Staff PDF award will be responsible for submitting a Final Report within 30 days of the event end date. The Final Report should address the following areas (200-word limit for each question):
- What tools, skills, knowledge and/or professional connections did you gain by participating in this event?
- What is the anticipated impact of participating in this event on your job?
- What are your plans to disseminate your new knowledge to your colleagues?
Once the end date has passed, awardees will receive reminder emails from the MyApps system regarding Final Report submission. Reimbursements will not be processed until a Final Report has been received.
Funds are held within the CLAS Dean’s Office and disbursed directly to your unit. Do not submit reimbursement requests directly to the Dean’s Office. The unit will reimburse you for your travel expenses and subsequently the Dean’s Office will reimburse your unit via Workday. All travel expenses associated with this award must be submitted to your unit using Workday. The College will reimburse your unit once your final report has been submitted.

A. Yes. Adjunct AP staff with at least a 12-month contract are eligible to apply for funding.
A. Yes. Affiliate and Visiting faculty can use the CLAS PDF in conjunction with CSCE, FTLC and department funds.
A. Travel funds can be requested as early as 2 months before scheduled travel.
A. Yes. In addition to travel, affiliate and visiting faculty members can use CLAS PD funding for things such as:
- Registration fees and travel for conferences, workshops, or other professional meetings relevant to the faculty member’s scholarship or teaching;
- Membership dues to professional organizations relevant to the faculty member’s scholarship or teaching;
- Material costs relevant to the faculty member’s scholarship or teaching that are not readily available (books, journals, videos, microforms, laboratory and studio supplies, software, datasets, etc.) [NOTE: computer software, hardware, or peripherals must follow the Technology Supply Policy]
