Goggles
Eye Safety in the Science Labs.
Eye safety is an essential part of science labs. Some courses at GVSU will require enrolled students to have a pair of safety goggles as part of attending the lab component of the course. These labs will outline what eye protection is necessary for the specific class. Most courses requiring eye protection will require a splash-proof goggle that meets ANSI Z87+D3 and CSA Z94.3 standards. To have proper protection, the Laker Store sells pre-approved goggles meeting the requirements for courses that would require safety protection.
Sellstrom Goggle
This goggle is required for BIO 120 and is available to use in Chemistry classes. Model number Model # S80201
Encon Goggle
This model is available and has more volume around the eyes to offer more room with larger prescription glasses.
Alternative Styles
Sometimes goggles are hard to fit, and if the standardized goggles do not fit appropriately, alternate styles would still meet current safety standards. Please see the additional options below that have already been pre-approved for use in Chemistry and Biology Labs.
Biology Department Note
BIO 120 students interested in using an alternative style must be able to show their lab instructor that the goggle they choose is an indirectly-vented, latex-free chemical splash goggle. Avoid cloth or elastic straps because they are not latex-free.
