Providing Support for our Student-Athletes
The purpose of the Club Sports Dues Assistance Program is to provide financial support for GVSU club sport student-athletes to offset their annual membership dues. Support for this fund is provided by generous donors of the club sports program, who also assist in selecting recipients.
Why does this fund exist?
Membership dues are essential to club sport operations, but can be costly for students to pay out of pocket. This program helps subsidize the cost of dues to make them more affordable for student-athletes.
Who qualifies?
Any GVSU Club Sports Student-Athlete who is eligible to compete in their league or association is eligible to apply for this program. If selected, your Executive Board will be notified to discount your annual membership dues as funds will be transferred directly to your club's on-campus account.
How can I apply?
Click on the icon above or use the link below to submit your application by August 1 of each year. Please note that student-athletes may only receive assistance from this fund once during their time competing for GVSU across all club sports.
Selection Process
Annual Deadline
Applications must be submitted by August 1 for consideration during the upcoming academic year. Selections will be made and announced prior to the beginning of each fall semester.
Application Review
Staff from Recreation & Wellness, as well as invited donors will review and score applications to determine recipients.
Making an Impact
Mr. Eric "Garv" Garvelink
Eric "Garv" Garvelink began working at GVSU in 2010 as the Graduate Assistant of Student-Life Sports, where he began his journey of making an impact to the Club Sports program that is still felt today.
The growth under Garv's tenure between 2010 until his departure as Associate Director of (then) Campus Recreation in 2018 placed GVSU club sports in the top one percent of programs in the country according to NIRSA. His advocacy for change, and ability to connect with students, coaches, alumni, and administration helped make a difference that still has an impact in the Recreation & Wellness department to this day.
These days, Garv is the Associate Director of Sales at 12twenty and remains a strong supporter of GVSU Club Sports.
