Dr. Austin Ferguson
Research Interests
My overarching research goal is to leverage computational modeling to further our understanding of evolutionary biology theory.
Key areas:
Experimental / Digital Evolution
Artificial Life
Evolutionary Biology
Evolutionary Computation
Artificial Intelligence
Professional Activities
Reviewer for conferences and journals in the artificial life / evolutionary computation spheres.
Personal Interests
Always trying to get fresh air (hiking, cycling, frisbee/disc golf, etc), playing board/video games, starting and never finishing game development, trying to keep plants alive.
Teaching Interests
I love teaching courses that build a solid practical and theoretical foundation for wherever computer science might take you! This ranges from early intro to programming and data structure classes to computer organization/architecture and the depths of the Linux terminal and git.
I'm also always happy to talk evolutionary computation, agent-based modeling, or interdisciplinary research, too!
Recent Publications
Please refer to my Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=sqJjSc0AAAAJ&hl=en) or personal website (https://fergusonaj.github.io/) for up-to-date research items.
Research with Students
None ongoing (I just started!), but always happy to talk to interested students!
