Professional Activities

In addition to delivering the following courses: Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD), Data Structures and Algorithms, and Machine Learning Lecturing, I have been engaged in several research projects primarily from the following areas: Precision Farming, Data Science, and Machine Learning. With the goal of translating these research into products, in collaboration with my colleagues and students, I have been developing some key infrastructures including associated data and machine learning pipelines.

Likewise earlier, this year, I attended a few conferences and webinars, and presented our research at the following venues: Symposium on Statistics and Data Science (SDSS), 2024 and International Conference on Data Mining and Software Engineering (DMSE), 2024. Over the last years, I have reviewed a number of articles for the following conferences and journals: NeuriPS, ICML, ICLR, International Conference on Machine Learning Techniques and NLP (MLNLP), and The Journal of Supercomputing.

Apart from attending GVSU College of Computing orientations and grant preparation workshops, I have also participated in several networking events, competitions, and training sessions as short-listed below:

Generative AI on AWS organized by Amazon (as a participant)
Webinar series: Data driven digital agriculture and innovation, organized by World Bank (as a participant)
MiCareerQuest at Grand Rapids, (as an AI product demonstrator)
DataFest@GVS competition (as a Data Science Coach)

Updated Research Opportunities for Students

  • Precision Farming: In this project, we are building certain supporting tools for farmers aiming to reduce their cost, improve throughput, and leave less (negative) environmental impacts.
  • Distributed Semi Supervised Learning: Are you curious about the latest machine learning tools, techniques, and beyond? In this research, we are developing models that can learn both from labeled and unlabeled data and work in a distributed fashion pursuing a coordinated and common objective.
  • Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (also directed towards potential collaborators): If you are an expert in a certain field and require data science assistance, please give us a shout. During my tenure as a Data Scientist for multiple North American companies, I have contributed in building AI products for various domains: Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Supply Chain, Aviation, Cybersecurity, and Healthcare.
