Cybersecurity - Freshman
What do you love most about the GVSU College of Computing?
I love the challenges that it gives me. I always love a good
challenge, especially if I have learned a lot. I can look back at what
I coded or knew before and see how far I've come.
What was your favorite project, research, or opportunity
you’ve worked on during your studies?
My favorite project I've worked on is one that I did in my
computer science class. We coded a program that encrypts and decrypts
plain-text. I loved this because I can relate it back to my major and
see how text can change in a computer.
What is a problem you would like to solve using tech, even if
it feels impossible now?
A problem I would love to see solved is being able to know 100%
that your data is safe. This is completely impossible now, and I think
we will forever be working towards this goal, but I have high hopes
that technology can get close to this goal in the future.
What is an unexpected skill or lesson you have learned in your
studies here at GV?
I have learned, in general, to approach problems with a positive
mindset. I have learned to approach it with a plan, then execute that
plan, if I run into a problem then I take a step back, revise the plan
and do this again until I've reached where I want to be. This skill is
unexpected because on the outside of a class you think you're just
going to learn the material, but you learn so much more than that.
What are your future plans?
My plans for the future, once I finish my degree, to be an
ethical hacker for the government or head of Cybersecurity for a
company. That is my long term goal. My short term goal is to get a 4.0
in my classes for this year, and to get some experience in the
technology field.
