DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION STATEMENT

The Division of Student Affairs is committed to continued excellence by learning, growing, and acting within our GVSU Laker community. We center students in everything we do and strive to create a safe and supportive environment for people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. We acknowledge that the United States has a complex history of embedded and structural inequities that create barriers for many people to full participation in public life, including in higher education.   By offering dynamic opportunities for culturally informed and responsive programming, and by fostering environments for brave and rich dialogue, we strive to promote a university community that values difference. Through this work, Grand Valley Lakers are empowered to challenge oppressive systems and cultures and to create socially diverse and just environments within Grand Valley State University and our society.

As Divisions, we seek to create a shared understanding of a DEI-AB approach in order to help make decisions and prioritize towards intentional outcomes. We are committed to strengthening our living, learning, and working environment by recognizing and removing the barriers to full participation and providing a safe, inclusive, vibrant community for all.

    Pregnancy and Parenting

Our team works to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all individuals who seek services through our office.  We understand that your GVSU experience may be impacted, and we’re able to provide assistance through supportive measures, or campus modifications, designed to protect your safety and preserve or restore your ability to participate in GVSU’s programs and activities.

Some individuals prefer a supportive response only, others choose to request a university investigation, and some choose both.  We’re here to help inform your decision and which path feels right for you.

We invite you to an informational meeting with a member of our team to discuss your options and how we may be able to assist.  Neither reporting to our office nor discussing with a member of our team obligates a course of action.  The choice to file a formal complaint with GVSU is yours to make.

You may also choose to make a report with the Grand Valley Police Department, and we can assist in making a connection.

    STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY RESOURCES

The Student Accessibility Resources (SAR) assists faculty and students equitably. Access believes that providing reasonable accommodations for students with a disability is a shared responsibility and partnership.

Grand Valley State University uses Student Centered Outcomes as the primary measure of assessment within each unit. The following are Student Centered Outcomes for Student Accessibility Resources.

    Student Outcomes for SAR-Retention

    Student Outcomes for SAR-Veterans
