Biography

Dr. Lindsay Corneal is an avid supporter of experiential education. Having participated in a co-operative education program as an undergraduate, she saw first-hand how valuable practical experience is to developing competent engineers. After completing her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering with a materials focus, Dr. Lindsay Corneal worked for six years as a product engineer at DaimlerChrysler where her main responsibility was the power steering system for the Ram pick-up truck.

With a love of learning new things, Dr. Corneal continued her education by taking night classes in a Master of Business Administration program while working at DaimlerChrysler. She ultimately decided to return to school full-time to obtain a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering in order to get into teaching. Dr. Corneal was drawn to teaching in the engineering program at GVSU because of its mandatory co-op requirement. She now teaches in the areas of materials science and engineering as well as in co-op preparation and the professional aspects of engineering.
