Cabdulcasiis Maxamed Ciise, known to many as Abdul, values the recognition of his full name, honoring his heritage as a first-generation immigrant from Somalia. In 2008, Abdul and his family moved to the United States, initially settling in Lansing, Michigan, before relocating to Cedar Springs, Michigan, where he grew up. Throughout his childhood, Abdul’s parents emphasized the power of education and the significant role it played in the development of his mind and character. Abdul is a first-generation college student and proud Laker for a Lifetime. He graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Business in 2023 and is on track to complete his M.Ed. in Higher Education in April 2025.

Before joining TRIO, Abdul was the Graduate Assistant for Presidential Initiatives where he mentored 30 first-generation students in the T4 Scholarship program. Additionally, he designed and led weekly activities and discussions focused on fostering a communal space and addressing the unique challenges faced by first-generation students. Prior to his GA, Abdul has served as a Chemistry Tutor, Peer Success Coach, and a Wellness Peer Educator. He is the CEO of Abdul Speaks LLC, a speaking company where he hosts workshops and speaking engagements dedicated to empowering high school and college students with the knowledge and tools to find their purpose and shape their future. Abdul Speaks LLC emphasizes resilience, motivation, and personal growth to help students reach their full potential.

Abdul is committed to helping students use education as a transformative tool to become the individuals they aspire to be. Above all, he is a human being striving to do his best.
