The GVSU Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance will present a complete performance of Bach’s “Art of Fugue” on February 18th at 5pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, downtown Grand Rapids.
Written for no specific instrumentation, Bach’s final testament on polyphony will be divided into different instrumental combinations that represent the whole of the department. Curated by Prof. Pablo Mahave-Veglia, groups involved include the GVSU Chamber orchestra, conducted by Joel Schut, The GVSU Early Music Ensemble, student string and saxophone quartets and woodwind quintet, as well as faculty Dan Graser, Gregory Crowell, Letitia Jap, Marlen Vavriková, and Abigail Walsh. The whole performance will last around 75 minutes and will consist of the uninterrupted whole of the Art of Fugue moving transition-less from one group to another.
