What is wheelchair basketball?

A basketball game played in wheelchairs, including two teams shooting at a target similar to that of a hoop to earn points. Modified targets will be provided that are lower and more accessible to shoot at from chair height.

What is this event?

This is a free wheelchair basketball event in collaboration with MSU Adaptive Sports & Recreation Club! MSU will be providing equipment, instructions, and demonstration of how to play. No prior experience is necessary. Information regarding rules and how to play with be provided along with all necessary equipment. Feel free to stop by anytime between 1-3pm Saturday, October 23rd to play! ALL individuals are welcome!

Who can play?

Everyone! This event is welcome to all students and community members with or without a disability of any kind.

Purpose

This is a fun, socially inclusive opportunity for all individuals to come together to learn and play wheelchair basketball. The goal is to create an accessible and accommodating environment for those with disabilities to participate in recreation on campus. Able-bodied participation is encouraged as a chance to play and learn about disability by highlighting the abilities of individuals with disabilities. One major purpose of this event is to gauge interest and thoughts from participants about future inclusive programming on campus. This event allows the Grand Valley community to come together to have fun in a space that promotes health and social inclusion through recreational activities.
