Community Engagement
Geography and Sustainable Planning faculty and students are engaged in a wide variety of community-based research and service learning projects. Our collaboration with community partners includes GIS applications for mapping neighborhood revitalization efforts with the Seeds of Promise, internships with the City of Grand Rapids Planning Department, and collaborative research with West Michigan Environmental Council.
Geography and Sustainable Planning faculty and students have contributed to Grand Rapids Climate Resiliency Report and many other regional, national and international initiatives on climate mitigation and adaptation planning, food security, sustainable mobility, and geospatial analysis.
Geography and Sustainable Planning Department is the home of the Climate Change Education Solutions Network – a Michigan based group of formal and informal educators passionate about teaching and learning solutions for the global climate crisis.
