Location
Mackinac Hall B-2-126
Description
Welcome to the GVSU Association of Student Geographers Club! Our organization is open to anyone who has an active interest in studying the world around us, exploring physical phenomena, the diverse and complex inhabitants that shape and transform boundaries, and the spatial and temporal aspects of the human impact on the natural environment whether terrestrial, atmospheric or nautical.
Our purpose is to increase awareness of the broad ranges of the discipline including Geomatics technologies such as Cartography, GIS, surveying, GPS data points and geocaching, remote sensing, aerial photography and satellite imaging as well as the cultural and regional aspects including urban planning, transportation, landscape ecology, agriculture, economics, natural resources management and environmental studies.
We are fairly active too and hosted a GIS Day event last year for a local middle school, sponsored monthly brown bag lunches featuring guest speakers participating in ongoing research, maintained an informational booth at open house functions and planned various events around National Geography Awareness week, traditionally held the second week in November. Feel free to join us and include your contact information so that we can facilitate meeting times and functions. We look forward to another exciting year!
The GVSU Association of Student Geographers and Planners will meet weekly in Mackinac Hall room B-2-126.
