GIS Specialist

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Administers and
maintains digital property tax maps through map preparation, data
entry, map editing, and quality control assurance using technologies,
which include
Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) or Geographic
Information Systems (GIS).
2. Updates and/or creates a wide
variety of map products using GIS and CAD
technology.
3.
Performs research and gathers data from a wide variety of sources for
inclusion in the
Berrien County's GIS.
4. Reads and interprets
maps, blueprints, survey documents, property descriptions, and
sketches.
5. Assists in developing geographic database structures,
tables, forms, and reports.
6. Provides customer service for
property information, maps, and aerials.
7. Assists in geographic
analysis and specialized map product formulation.
8. Completes
special projects and assignments as requested by the Planning Director.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s Degree in geography,
cartography, planning, or related field and a minimum of two
years
of experience in geographic information and mapping systems, including
knowledge in the
fundamentals of cadastral mapping; OR
·
Associate of Science Degree that includes coursework related to GIS,
CAD, geography or
computer systems and a minimum of four years of
experience in geographic information and
mapping systems,
including knowledge in the fundamentals of cadastral mapping; OR
·
High school diploma or equivalent and a combination of six years of
experience and post high
school education.
