University Requirements

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  2. Submission of all required admission materials, including:
    1. Completed graduate application for admission
    2. $30 nonrefundable application fee (unless you have previously applied to Grand Valley)
    3. Official copies of transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended (including college courses taken while in high school- dual enrollment). Transcripts must be sent from those institutions directly to the GVSU Admissions Office. NOTE: We do not require official transcripts from Grand Valley

Program Requirements

Application Procedures

Admission to the medical dosimetry program is competitive and requires completion of a bachelor's degree prior to admission. Application can be made through the GVSU graduate admission website at gvsu.edu/grad/dosimetry. The application deadline is February 1. At the time of application, students must submit a plan that demonstrates how the prerequisites and undergraduate degree requirements will be completed prior to the start of the program if they are not completed at the time of admission application. Applicants who are selected for the program and can demonstrate completion of these requirements prior to the start of the program will be issued letters of conditional admission, which will convert to full admission upon successful completion of the entire plan. A plan for completion should be submitted as an additional page to the application. There is not a form for this document.

Admission Requirements

  • Academic achievement:  A grade of C or higher must be attained in all prerequisite coursework.  To qualify for the program, applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and meet one of the following criteria:
    1. A bachelor's degree from a JRCERT-accredited radiation therapy program
    2. A bachelor's degree (in any discipline) and a certificate or associate degree from a JRCERT-accredited radiation therapy program
    3. A bachelor's degree (in any discipline) along with the prerequisite courses from a JRCERT-accredited radiation therapy program, JRCERT-accredited medical dosimetry program or a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics program
  • Prerequisite course completion: The Prerequisite Verification and GPA Calculation Worksheet is part of the online graduate application. 

  • Health care experience: Documentation of a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer/paid health care experience or eight hours of medical dosimetry job shadowing experience documented on a resume
  • Resume: A resume detailing health care/job shadow experiences, work experiences, leadership, and accomplishments.
  • References: Three recommendations from health professionals must be submitted on university recommended forms located within the graduate application. Applicants submit the references’ contact information, and they are sent a form to complete. Separate written letters of recommendation from references are NOT required. A maximum of three references will be accepted.
  • Personal Statement: A personal statement of career goals and background experiences, including an explanation of how this program will help achieve educational and professional objectives.
  • Internationally Trained Applicants:
    • Students whose undergraduate education is from outside the U.S. must submit a transcript that has been translated by a professional translator or credential evaluation service, such as WES or ECE.
    • Students must demonstrate proficiency in English. Any one of the following test scores are required:
      • TOEFL: 80 (we do not accept "My Best" score)
      • IELTS: 6.5
      • PTE: 53
  • International Students:
    • Applicants requiring an F1 Visa, J1 Visa or M1 Visa are not eligible for the Medical Dosimetry program, due to federal U.S. immigration regulations of online education.

Deadline

Submit all application materials by February 1st (all materials must be received by this date, including transcripts and letters of recommendation). The application opens in mid-September for the Fall.  

  • If you are interested in Part Time and have your own clinical site available please contact the Program Director. 
  • Students will be notified of acceptance into the program by March 15th (new cohorts start in August).

As part of the application, all applicants must complete the prerequisite form to calculate the prerequisite GPA used in the admissions process. All Routes are required to have the prerequisite course STA 215 Introductory Applied Statistics (or equivalent). For Routes A and B, JRCERT-accredited radiation therapy programs have minimum curriculum requirements that satisfy the program prerequisites. These courses will be used to calculate the prerequisite GPA.  For applicants applying via Route C, the following prerequisites must be completed:
