Professional Learning

Professional Learning Policy

Professional learning is used to describe the process of evaluating learning gained outside the college classroom. This policy is used to grant college-level graduate credit to help further students’ educational process by acknowledging the knowledge students have attained through professional experience.

The medical dosimetry courses that are eligible for Professional Learning credit are RMD 661 Medical Dosimetry Clinical Education I, RMD 662 Medical Dosimetry Clinical Education II and RMD 663 Medical Dosimetry Clinical Education III. Students must demonstrate a completion of the required medical dosimetry professional work experience hours in the United States, required minimum number of competencies and corresponding assignments. These requirements will match the current curriculum requirements of the application year. Equivalent clinical hours must have been completed within the last 6 years in order to be compliant with the eight-year time limit for degree completion. Students interested in earning professional learning credit should email the program director with their request. If approved for consideration, the student will enroll in RMD 697 Professional Learning and pay a $250 assessment fee, there is no additional per credit tuition charge.

All Professional Learning applications (including paid treatment planning hours and competencies) must be submitted to the Program Director by July 1st of the year the student begins the medical dosimetry program. No additional paid treatment planning hours may be gained after July 1st. Students who have already begun the medical dosimetry program are not eligible for Professional Learning credit.

Students are required to demonstrate competency in professional learning through an individualized assessment. The following criteria must be demonstrated fully in the assessment materials. Partial credit for courses will not be granted. All paid treatment planning hours need verification which can be obtained through a notarized letter by human resources or the manager of the department. Mandatory Competency Forms need to be signed by a certified staff member at the institution of employment. The assignment directions will be emailed to the applicant. Applicants who currently hold the title, Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD), can submit their current verification of CMD credentials letter from the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) as proof of their competency in lieu of the medical dosimetry professional work experience hours, required minimum number of competencies and corresponding assignments.
