As we head towards spring, we’re excited for the celebration that comes with the end of the academic year. GVSU continues to ride a wave of momentum, focusing on growth, agility and relevance as we graduate the decision-makers and critical thinkers who will make our world a better place.

This focus on aligning with the needs of our community is nothing new; in fact, it’s built into GVSU’s DNA. When the university was created more than 60 years ago, area business leaders involved in its fundraising and founding recognized that having a public university in the region would fuel economic growth while enhancing the entire region. This intersection of education and business continues today with our commitment to providing real-world opportunities for all of our students and a deep understanding of the wonders of our community and employers, which leads them to stay and make their future in Michigan.

The contemporary landscape demands more. It demands agility and new collaborations to meet the evolving and steep talent needs here and globally. We continue to incubate and generate new and unique solutions, through original initiatives like the Laker Accelerated Talent Link (LATL) and our Blue Dot Lab. This semester, LATL has its first cohort of students at five local businesses. We co-created this program with the participating companies. Students obtain a certificate in a key skill while earning credit and preparing for possible post-graduation work at the company.

Meanwhile, our Blue Dot Lab is also making progress on the heels of the state approving $30 million to transform the Eberhard Center. The space will house students, faculty and business leaders in the computer and technology space who will partner to help fulfill our commitment to triple the number of graduates in those fields.

As we remember the legacy of our origins, we embrace the promise of tomorrow — a future strengthened by the enduring connection between GVSU and the Michigan business community.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement,
