Avis is the Joint Academic Coordinator for the History and Modern Languages and Literatures Departments. She coordinates student affairs and outreach, communications, marketing, alumni outreach, events, administrative operations, as well as supporting faculty in their day-to-day needs.

Prior to working for GVSU, she worked for various law firms and non-profits. She double majored and earned her BA in Foreign Service and Political Science. Her J.D.'s concentration was general practice, solo, and small firm.
