Michael Vazquez - City of Grand Rapids Archives and Records Center Intern
My time at the City of Grand Rapids Archives and Records Center was fantastic. The head archivist Tony Wright gave me the freedom to explore whatever aspects of archival work I chose. Additionally, both Tony and the assistant archivist Matt were super helpful and friendly throughout the duration of the internship. I worked on research projects for requests made by individual parties, as well as the Grand Rapids Police Department. I also worked with my co-intern Natalie to photograph and catalogue all of the artwork housed in the archives. Lastly, I took part in updating and adding to the archive's Omeka page where we documented early 20th-century mugshot photos from Grand Rapids. Overall I would say my experience was fantastic. Great people, great flexibility, and fun work!
