Outstanding Alumni
Erin Cole, History '21
I did not originally come to GVSU intending to major in history. I knew I enjoyed my history classes and had a meeting with Dr. Coolidge who connected me with Dr. Gautreau and classes in public history. In these classes I participated in projects with preserving a 1930s mugshot book and creating a plaque for a historic building in Lowell.
I acted as Editor-in-chief for the Grand Valley Journal of History and landed a part-time internship at the Grand Rapids City Archives. These experiences shaped what I wanted to do in history and I am currently planning to go on for a Master’s degree.
In Fall, 2021 I began my Master’s program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis where I am pursuing my Master’s in public history with a certificate in museum studies. I hope to have a career in museums in order to make history fun and accessible to everyone.
