Job Summary

The Benefits and Wellness Assistant performs administrative work supporting the health and wellness function of Employee Benefits. Key areas of support involve the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and the 403(b) plan. The individual in this role must have great collaborative skills to work with other members of the Total Rewards team and the broader Human Resources department.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the Administration of the various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, life insurance, 403(b), and wellness benefits.
  • Assist with the development and execution of wellness initiatives.
  • Work with the Retirement vendors team to respond to 403(b) inquiries from employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
  • Assist with new hire payroll data entry.
  • Assist with Employee Orientations
  • Assists with the open enrollment process.
  • Work with various vendors to resolve employee benefit issues.
  • Generate/compile various data requests and reports.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating files, both paper and electronic, systems and web page maintenance.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Experience with various computer software applications such as Microsoft Office and/or equivalent.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Typing and spelling competency with grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully coordinate large projects.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully handle multiple demands efficiently.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully navigate challenging situations in the workplace, while using good judgement.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Ability to successfully maintain positive intercultural and interpersonal relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Human Resources/Benefits experience.
  • Knowledgeable in Employee Benefits and applicable laws.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot table), MS Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using Human Resources/Benefits information systems (Workday Preferred).
  • Experience using various reporting software (Workday Preferred).
  • Supervisory experience.

Supervision Received

Receives minimal supervision from a designated supervisor. Much of the work is self-initiated. Person is expected to function with considerable independence and apply appropriate policies and procedures within the assigned area of responsibility.

Supervision Exercised

Hire, train, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
