Job Summary

Responsible for assisting with the mailroom functions in support of the recruitment activities of the university.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise the unloading, receiving, logging and storage of bookstore shipments.
  • Notify buyers and/or vendors of discrepancies and damage.
  • Update inventory records and accurately maintain both manual and computerized records.
  • Verify carton counts as required.
  • Oversee the accurate fulfillment and transfer of merchandise to UBS-Allendale and Pew Campus.
  • Hire, train and supervise students and temporary employees in the warehouse.
  • Access, log, process and ship customer orders from fliers and web site.
  • Assist in the maintaining web site, including processing photos and entering descriptions as required.
  • Develop and oversee protocol for placement and labeling of inventory on shelves and pallets for easy access.
  • Supervise daily cleaning and maintenance for warehouse, adhering to the highest standards for both.
  • Notify bookstore staff of low stock levels and make recommendations for markdowns on aged merchandise as needed.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Order supplies for warehouse.
  • Operate warehouse equipment.
  • Assist with scheduling bookstore van usage and maintenance.
  • Assist in monitoring bookstore security at peak times.
  • Assist on bookstore sales floor and cash registers as needed at peak times.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive intercultural and interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully operate office equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Typing and spelling competency.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully to use various computer software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Excellent grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college course work.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Some experience in a retail shipping/receiving or warehouse environment.
  • Familiarity with college store database management systems.
  • Familiarity with materials handling equipment and procedures.

Supervision Received:

Receives general instruction from a designated supervisor, but is generally expected to work independently.

Supervision Exercised:

Hire, train, supervise, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to other PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
