Candidate Campus Visit Checklist
Use the checklist below to prepare for a candidate campus visit to create a positive candidate experience.
Let the candidate know what they need to prepare for the visit.
- Send the candidate the interview agenda and provide any information that will help them be successful.
- Send the candidate a campus map; include information such as available parking lots and which building to go to.
- Send the candidate a guest parking permit (if applicable).
Make hotel accommodations for candidate at a nearby hotel; consider which hotel might be best for the candidate.
- If the candidate is arriving by plane, let the candidate know who will meet them at the airport and/or who will pick them up at the hotel and bring them to campus (if applicable).
- Arrange for a small GVSU gift (e.g., basket with GVSU items) or something welcoming to be waiting in the candidate’s hotel room.
Draft the candidate’s campus visit schedule in advance.
- Share the schedule and solicit input from candidate on what they are interested in seeing/doing when in Grand Rapids for interview/visit.
- Schedule opportunities for candidates to engage students during the on-campus visit.
- Give candidate time to explore topics/areas that are important to them.
- Build in downtime/breaktime so the candidate has time to themselves.
- Assign the candidate a private space to use while on campus.
- Plan to cater lunch during which the candidate can have a low-key dialog with colleagues.
Ensure the candidate has a positive experience from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave.
- Greet candidate at airport (if applicable).
- Make arrangements to have someone with the candidate throughout their visit.
- Take the candidate back to the airport (if applicable).
