Kirkhof College of Nursing Grant Personnel

HRSA Advanced Nursing Education Workforce Grant (ANEW):

In 2019, KCON was awarded a four-year HRSA ANEW grant to increase primary care services in Michigan's rural and/or underserved communities by educating and graduating 19 Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Nurse Practitioners (NPs). In 2023, KCON received a continuation grant through the HRSA to continue the ANEW program. KCON partnered with McLaren Health Care and Trinity Health Muskegon to recruit and educate 37 DNP NPs, who are underrepresented minorities or from a disadvantaged background, to provide primary, mental, and substance use disorder health care, in rural and/or underserved communities in Michigan. The three program tracks supported through the grant include Adult/Older Adult Primary Care, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

HRSA Nursing Workforce Diversity Grant (NWD):

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) grant is a collaborative effort between GVSU, McLaren Health Care, and Corewell Health West to increase nursing education opportunities for nurses from disadvantaged backgrounds and to equip them to provide culturally aligned care and lead in healthcare systems that provide care for medically underserved areas in Michigan.
