In 1999, attorney Robert Billott initiated lawsuits against DuPont in response to the deleterious environmental and human health effects of the chemicals PFOA and PFOS, which the company had secretly dumped in West Virginia.  After twenty years of litigation, the case was decided in the plaintiffs’ favor. 

Dark Waters is a fictionalized retelling of these events that remains true to the strife of the original story. It brings to light a decades old issue that is still impacting communities across the US today.

A number of local activists joined together for a discussion on the movie and a broader conversation on PFAS and its impacts, including Rob Bilott, Sandy Winn, and AJ Birkbeck.
