HPE Scoop
National Fishing in the Schools
Students in HPE 260-Teaching Methods of Outdoor Pursuits- were able to engage in fly fishing lessons as a part of the curriculum. Dr. Johnson received a TIG grant a few years ago to obtain a certification and a classroom set of fly fishing equipment. This is the first time she was ble to implement these lessons for HPE majors. During this lesson HPE majors were able to learn the fundamentals of fly fishing. They were able to practice a variety of skills including how to string and cast a rod, learn about the different types of fish they might catch as well as the role of insectology in the sport of fly fishing. A great and educational time was had by all! For more information on the National Fishing in the Schools program- https://www.fishinginschools.org/
