Criteria for Applying
Urban charter schools are in need of talented, passionate teachers who want to make a difference in the lives of their students. The GVSU Charter Schools Office proudly offers the Detroit Charter School Student Teaching Scholarship which is awarded to top undergraduate students who student teach at a GVSU authorized charter school in Detroit. Secondary and elementary student teaching placements are available each semester.
Student teaching for a semester at a GVSU authorized charter school opens the door for potential long-term benefits:
- Potential for immediate employment
- Receive 50% off M.Ed. degree at GVSU if employed at a GVSU authorized charter school (M.Ed. coursework is offered at the GVSU Detroit Center)
- Students may qualify for loan forgiveness after five years of employment at an urban school. Contact your lender for eligibility.
