This project is an AI-driven virtual patient which is capable of understanding both the literal AND underlying meaning of a sentence spoken by a student, allowing us to display a relevant response from the patient even if a student speaks naturally and is not provided an exact script of commands. Simulation education can help students feel prepared for the reality of their work before leaving school but securing space, hiring actors, and supporting staff is often cost-prohibitive. This app could save the university money and could expand access to unique educational experiences by providing a customizable asynchronous, remote option.
