Vocal performers are among the most frequent visitors of ENT clinics with 35% occurrence of voice problems due to their daily vocal load requirements as self-reported. Studies showed that the professional actors would benefit significantly by improving their knowledge on vocal functioning and hygiene by collaborating with speech-language pathologists(SLPs). The researchers developed an interprofessional collaborative lab for speech-language pathology and acting graduate students by resolving a case study of an actor with a voice disorder. The lab began with a prebrief discussing the roles of SLPs and professional voice coaches along with stepwise guidelines on comprehensive voice evaluation, followed by the case study simulation with the help of standardized patients(SPs) for virtual live encounters in telehealth model. Debrief with a large group was used to reflect on the learning experience. A statistically significant improvement post-intervention in self-confidence, preparation on clinical skill-specific competencies, and interprofessional communication across two cohorts was seen.
