Description
Led by experienced Climbing Wall Instructors, this workshop will introduce the fundamentals of indoor sport lead climbing and belaying in a single-day, in-person format.
For the best information comprehension and success in this workshop, it is strongly encouraged that participants meet the following:
- Have been climbing for at least 12 months with at least 6 months spent climbing regularly (~1x per week).
- Are a proficient top-rope belayer, qualified to belay in our facility. Proficient = can perform the skill as though it's second nature.
- Can comfortably and confidently flash (climb on the first try, without falling) climbs at the 5.9 difficulty in our facility.
We are happy to discuss the importance of meeting the above and the implications each may have on your learning to lead climb.
This workshop will provide the knowledge and standards required for passing the lead climb/ belay test (skill proficiency check) required for leading in our facility. Completion of the workshop does not guarantee participant's will have developed sufficient proficiency to pass the lead test. It is each participant's responsibility to practice the skills on their own to meet the evaluation standards.
We recognize that many of our climbers also have interest in climbing outdoors. It is worth noting that while there are similarities with outdoor leading, the information presented in this workshop is specific to INDOOR environments. Please consider attending our Gym to Crag workshop which will help fill the missing pieces if you hope to take your lead climbing outside.
This event also appears on the main events calendar tagged as dsa, outdooradventures, and recwell.
