Frederick A. Chapman Memorial Public Relations Scholarship
DEADLINE: March 1
The Frederick A. Chapman Memorial Public Relations Scholarship is designed to assist students pursuing a career in public relations who demonstrate a commitment to community service. The student must be an Advertising and PR major with an emphasis in Public Relations with a minimum 3.2 GPA who demonstrates a commitment to community service leadership. Application Guidelines.

School of Communications Scholarship
DEADLINE: the first Monday in February, 5:00 p.m.
The School of Communications Scholarship is designed to honor upper-level School of Communications students who have demonstrated promise in their chosen field of study. Scholarship funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. The student must have declared a major in the School of Communications, be in good academic standing, and have completed a minimum of 30 credits at GVSU. Individual scholarships will be in the $1000 range. The scholarships are not automatically renewable, but students may re-apply. Scholarship awards begin fall of the following academic year. Dr. Margaret Proctor School of Communications Scholarship
DEADLINE: the first Monday in March, 5:00 p.m.
The scholarship is intended to benefit School of Communications students who write in a vivid, direct and unique voice. It is designed especially with fiction writing in mind, which includes writing for film and theater. The exact amount of total monies available for the scholarship will not be less than $500 nor more than $1,000. Application Guidelines

The Warren Reynolds Scholarship
Background:
The Warren Reynolds Scholarship is named in honor of the longtime sports director at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids. Warren Reynolds, who died of cancer in 2000 and was a champion of charitable causes throughout the region, left a legacy of integrity in broadcast journalism. This scholarship is intended for students who exemplify these ideals and show a passion for electronic media. Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in sports broadcasting.
Eligibility:
Students are qualified to apply if they: Are currently enrolled as a full-time Junior or Senior in the School of Communications. Have demonstrated leadership in courses, internships, broadcasting assignments and extracurricular activities. Have demonstrated financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Application Guidelines

John J. and Marjorie E. Shepard Communications Scholarship
DEADLINE: the last Monday in March, 5:00 p.m. Established in memory of John J. and Marjorie E. Shepard, to support students in the Grand Valley State University School of Communications. It was their wish that a portion of their estate be designated for a scholarship to benefit students pursuing careers in broadcasting. Scholarships are renewable for up to four semesters (with re-application). Individual scholarships are in the range of $1,500. Application Guidelines

Gates Millenium Scholarships
Background: The Gates Millenium Scholarship is aimed at increasing the number of low-income African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, American Indians / Alaska Natives, and Hispanic Americans enrolling in and completing undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this award program promotes academic excellence and enhances access to higher education for thousands of outstanding low-income students.
Eligibility: Individuals are eligible to be considered for a Gates Millenium Scholarship if they: Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale; Are accepted into or enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university for the academic year at the time of the award; Have demonstrated financial need as defined by the federal needs analysis formula; and Have demonstrated leadership commitment through participation in community service, extracurricular activities or other activities that reflect leadership abilities.

WGVU Public Media Student Employee Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize the importance of student employees at public broadcasting stations, to encourage excellence in the student staff and to reward outstanding efforts on the part of student employees. National Press Photographers Foundation Scholarships
5 $1000.00 grants per year from the National Press Photographers Foundation. Students must submit a portfolio of their work demonstrating skill, versatility and potential. Financial need is also a criterion. The deadline is March 1 every year. The Frank Fund Grant for Professional Development
The Frank Fund Endowment supports professional development activities of Advertising and Public Relations students. Set up in honor of Professor Frank Blossom, a veteran of the ad industry and a former professor at GVSU, the fund can be used for airfare to conferences and seminars and for conference/seminar registration fees. The Nelson Foundation Fellowship

This fellowship provides funds for JBM students who are pursuing an unpaid internship. The Robert Nelson Foundation makes the Nelson Fellowship possible. The board of directors of the Robert Nelson Foundation is committed to honoring the legacy of Mr. Nelson by funding projects that enhance communities and demonstrate innovation, excellence, and service. Mr. Nelson spent almost 40 years of his life in the radio/television industry. The Robert Nelson Foundation is committed to honoring Mr. Nelson’s vision of helping young people follow their dreams of pursuing a career in a field that he loved. Study and Practice of General Semantics Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students who demonstrate an understanding of general semantics and its application in their lives. Established by the School of Communications to promote awareness of the Institute of General Semantics and to encourage students to study and practice general semantics in their lives and professions.
