PAUSE AND LEARN SERIES
March 29, 2022
The School of Social Work is holding a Pause and Learn Series featuring speakers on current community topics and scholarly work. The image shown here was taken from the first installment: Refugee resettlement: How can the School of Social Work community support Afghan individuals and families in their adjustment to life in West Michigan? Katie Carpenter, LLMSW from Bethany Christian Services, described the ways communities can help the incoming Afghan individuals and families. Carpenter explained that the group faces additional obstacles due to their status as humanitarian parolees, rather than refugees, such as being ineligible for government benefits like healthcare and food assistance.
