The Division of Student Affairs helps students get the most out of their university experience and achieve personal, educational, and career success.

  1. Basic Needs Support: Familiarize yourself with GVSU’s Basic Needs resources to help students access food, housing, or financial assistance

  1. QPR Training: Take the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention training to identify and support students in crisis.

  1. Conduct or CARE Referrals: Submit referrals to the Office of Student Conflict Resolution (OSCCR) for student conduct issues or use the CARE system for students needing support.

  1. Encourage Advisor Connections: Urge students to regularly connect with their academic advisors and consider being an advisor for student organizations.

  2. Expressive Activity & First Amendment: Learn about GVSU’s policies on expressive activity and First Amendment rights to support student freedom of speech in a respectful environment.

  3. Encourage Well-being Engagement: Promote involvement with RecWell, University Counseling, and the Center for Health and Well-being, encouraging students to prioritize their overall health and well-being.

  1. Social Justice Centers & Student Accessibility Resources: Share information about the Social Justice Centers and Student Accessibility Resources to support diverse needs and promote an inclusive campus environment.

  1. GVSU Votes!: Encourage student civic engagement by promoting voting and educating students about their rights and responsibilities.

  1. Commencement & Convocation: Assist with event planning, volunteering, or supporting students during these key ceremonies.

  1. Know Who to Contact: If you’re unsure how to help a student or need information on available resources, reach out to your supervisor or the Dean of Students Office for guidance.
