Assessment of Student Outcomes
Outcome 1 SST/HST Primary and Secondary Sources
History/Social Studies Majors are able to gather and contextualize
information from primary and secondary source texts that offer a range
of perspectives.
Objective 1
In HST 495 or SST 495, History and Social Studies Majors gather and
contextualize information from primary and secondary source texts that
offer a range of perspectives.
Measure 1
2018 Status
Achieved
In 2018 our findings were as follows • 100-level – All majors: 33.02%
emergent or above at mid-semester, slightly below the 40% threshold for
the end of the semester • 200-level – All majors: 56.78% emergent or
above at mid semester, above the 50% threshold for the end of the
semester • 300-level – All majors: 46% emergent or above at
mid-semester, below the 60% threshold for the end of the semester (note
that in contrast to the 300-level students in EDI 331 last year, almost
all of the students in 300 level courses assessed were non-majors). •
400-level – All majors: 73.91% emergent or above at mid semester, above
the 65% threshold for the end of the semester The number of majors
captured by the assessment process was 23 for HST and 28 for GPST. •
Sophomores: 2 HST students are at the emergent level while the 2 GPST
students were at the basic level. • Juniors: 77.77% of the 9 HST
students are at or above the emergent level (44% proficient, 33%
emergent) while the 2 GPST students were at the basic level. • Seniors:
75% of the 12 HST students are at or above the emergent level (50%
proficient, 25% emergent) while 60.52% of the 28 GPST students were at
or above the emergent level (17.86% proficient, 42.86% emergent).
Outcome 3 SST Social Studies Data Literacy
Social Studies Majors are able to analyze, interpret, and organize data
to address Social Studies problems.
Objective 2
Social Studies majors develop the ability to analyze, interpret, and
organize data to address Social Studies problems.
Outcome 4 SST Answering Questions about the Past
Social Studies students generate significant, open-ended questions about
the past and devise strategies to answer.
Objective 2
Social Studies students develop the ability to generate significant,
open-ended questions about the past and devise strategies to answer
these queries from the perspective of multiple disciplines over the
course of the major.
