Outcome PHO: A Oral Communication

Graduates of Photography will be able to communicate effectively about their own artistic works, and the works of others, in written and oral form.
Objective 1 Students in the Photography major will be able to effectively give an oral presentation on their own artistic work, and the work of others.

Data was collected from three sections of PHO 175 in Fall 2017 using the same presentation assignment and the oral presentation rubric used in the general education program. The sample was 60 students.

Outcome PHO: B Problem Solving

Graduates of Photography will demonstrate proficient knowledge of art history and the history and theory of photography.
Objective 2 Students will be able to explain and apply a variety of color strategies and color theory in photographic works.

71% of students in PHO 279 Color Photography I achieved either Satisfies or Progressing on the Problem Solving Rubric.

Outcome PHO: C Professional Preparedness

Graduates of Photography will demonstrate that they are prepared to successfully enter professional careers and graduate education in photography or related creative fields.
Objective 1 Students in PHO 272 will demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental aspects of digital photography.

Outcome PHO: D Written Communication

Graduates of Photography will be able to write effectively for multiple purposes and audiences.
Objective 1 Students in PHO 172 will be able to write an effective artist statement.

Outcome PHO: E Information Literacy

Graduates of Photography will demonstrate proficient knowledge of art history and the history and theory of photography.
Objective 1 Students in PHO 366 will demonstrate proficiency in using the language and process of critical analysis applied to artistic works.

This is the first assessment in which we used the Gen Ed rubric for critical thinking. Previously, we marked that our students had achieved the benchmark by earning a C or better. The more detailed analysis shows that 79% hit this mark. I also used a rubric to grade the papers based on the Ged Ed's for the first time.

Outcome PHO: F Problem Solving

Graduates of Photography will be able to design and evaluate strategies to answer open-ended questions.
Objective 1 Students in PHO 172 will be able to demonstrate proficiency with technical skills required in making black and white photographs from negatives, expanding on the effects of camera controls with film exposure and development, and printing in service to their photographic vision and series.

Outcome PHO: G Integration

Graduates of Photography will be able to synthesize and apply knowledge, experiences, and multiple perspectives to new, complex situations as they relate photography and its historical context.
Objective 1 Students in PHO 495 will identify and apply relevant concepts, ideas, and methods from the history of photography in their senior thesis projects and papers.
