Graduates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of how student learning
and learning opportunities are influences by student characteristics and
by collegiate environments so that graduates can design and evaluate
learning experiences for students.
Outcome W M.Ed. in Higher Education: Content knowledge: Foundational documents, professional values, and ethical principles
Graduates will be able to reference historical and current documents
that state the philosophical foundations of the profession and to
communicate their relevance to current student affairs practice; will be
able to articulate the inherent values of the profession that are
stipulated in these documents in a manner that indicates how these
values guide practice; and, will be knowledgeable about and be able to
apply as code of ethics or ethical principles sanctioned by a recognized
professional organization that provides ethical guidance for their work.
Outcome Y M.Ed. in Higher Education: Professional studies - Assessment, Evaluation, and Research
Professional Studies: Assessment, Evaluation and Research: Graduates
must be able to critique a sounds study or evaluation and be able to
design, conduct, and report on a sound research study, assessment study,
or program evaluation, grounded in the appropriate literature; and, must
be aware of research ethics and legal implications of research,
including the necessity of adhering to a human subjects review.

Professional Studies: Organization and Administration of Student Affairs
Graduates must be able to identify and apply leadership, organizational
and management practice that assist institutions in accomplishing their mission.
Outcome [ M.Ed. in Higher Education: Supervised Practice
Supervised Practice
Graduates must gain exposure to both the breadth and depth of student
affairs work. Students must gain experience in developmental work with
individual students and groups of students in: program planning,
implementation, or evaluation; staff training, advising, or supervision;
and administration functions or processes.
Outcome \ M.Ed. in Higher Education: Student Affairs and the Law
Student Affairs and the Law: Students must be able to demonstrate a
thorough understanding of the legal issues affecting higher education
and student affairs and key legal issues of higher education law
including public vs. private institutions, FERPA, Title IX, Affirmative
Action, etc.
Outcome ] M.Ed. in Higher Education: Community Colleges
Community Colleges - Students must articulate the differences in
organizational behavior and cultural biases between two-year and
four-year colleges; the evolution of the community college as a major
component of higher education; the philosophical purposes of the
community college and their impact on the organizational behavior of its
operation; the importance of community relations and the role that
representatives of community colleges play in forging effective
partnerships; the diversity of mission, student enrollment, and staffing
impact the curriculum and services provided.
Outcome ^ M.Ed. in Higher Education: Critical Issues
Critical Issues in Higher Education: Students must be able to identify,
analyze, and debate critical issues facing American higher education;
discuss the diverse institutional and environmental factors that
influence higher education; and show an understanding the complexity of
critical issues in higher education, including their history, context,
effects on various constituents, and short- and long-term implications.
