About Student Senate
Student Senate will cultivate an environment that elevates student voices and leaves a lasting impact.
Why do we need a student government?
Grand Valley State University's Student Senate works to ensure that the student voice is continually heard by the university. Student Senate recommends changes to university policy to benefit students, and constantly ensures student concerns are being considered in university decision-making. Our 40 Senators serve on one of five different councils (Allocations, Public Relations, Advocacy, Policy, or Events), each working to advance student interests in various ways.
More on Our Purpose
Student Senate works as a liaison between students and faculty to investigate and resolve common student problems; advocate for the inclusion of students in the overall policy and decision-making processes of the university community; promote awareness of the role students play in the academic community; enhance the quality and scope of education at the university both inside and outside the classroom; and empower students with leadership opportunities.
We invite you to join us.
Contribute your ideas, bring your unique perspective and talents, and be a part of all the big things we do. All students should feel empowered to speak during the public comment portions of our General Assembly meetings or reach out to a Senator with a concern. The GVSU Student Senate represents every Laker.
