Petition Information

Petitions to get on the ballot in the Spring elections are open now! Petitions must be submitted to the Office of Student Life (Kirkhof 1110) by 5pm on Friday, February 21st.

If you are interested in getting involved in Student Senate, we encourage you to run. You can download a printable version from this page below or stop into either the Office of Student Life (Kirkhof 1110) or the Student Senate Office (KC 0008) for a printed version. 

Student Senate's primary goal is to cultivate an inclusive environment where every voice feels heard, valued, and represented. We are committed to fostering a future where each member of our community plays an integral role in shaping our university's direction. 2025-2026 Election Rules and Regulations


Voting

Voting for the 2025-2026 Student Senate will open on Monday, March 17th at 8am and close at on Monday, March 24th at 5pm. Only currently enrolled GVSU students are eligible to vote. 

Voting Instructions / Overview
On the ballot, students will select candidates for the following positions: 

  • Student Body President and Vice President
  • College Representatives: based on one of the eight GVSU Colleges that a student’s major falls within.
    • Check back later for more information on voting for College Representatives!
  • At-Large student senators: students that will represent the entire GVSU community.
    • Check back later for more information on voting for At-Large Senators!


Write in Instructions
Students can write in a candidate for either a college representative seat or an at-large seat on the ballot.  The name of the write in candidate must exactly match the student name as it appears in banner and the student must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.25
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must be available for General Assembly meetings on Thursdays at 4:30pm

Voter selection will be based on the highest number of votes received.
