Seidman Sustainability Association Logo

Seidman Sustainability Association

The Seidman Sustainability Association was created in 2020 to educate and connect the community to the sustainability movement through the business perspective. In this club, we aim to take action through meetings, events, and starting conversations to make a difference in the environment. With a strong connection to the West Michigan community, SSA builds relationships with local companies to promote their business and highlight their sustainable actions with collaboration and joint participation. This club also helps prepare students for building careers in CSR, where classroom education lacks. Being a part of Grand Rapids, the top metro city for sustainable development, there are endless opportunities for growth and education surrounding sustainability and Grand Valley’s participation.

GVSU Beekeepers

GVSU Beekeepers

GVSU Student Environmental Coalition

We are the Environmental Coalition on campus, and we host regular sustainability workshops and events for both the diehard environmentalists and those who just want to learn how to live a more earth-friendly lifestyle- Anyone and Everyone is welcome! We also offer multiple environmental-related volunteer events and opportunities throughout the semester, like Zero-Waste football games, campus clean-ups, group hikes, and facility tours (industrial compost facility tour, landfill tour, waste-to-energy tour), and we also provide networking and friendship opportunities to meet other like-minded and sustainability-focused peers colleagues!

Farm Club Logo

GVSU Farm Club

The Farm Club is a student group dedicated to promoting the principles and practices of sustainable agriculture. We provide an open space for veggies, knowledge, and relationships to grow! We meet regularly at the GVSU Student Farm located at 4539 Luce St, Jenison, MI 49428. You do not have to be an experienced gardener nor come with any previous knowledge- only a willingness to learn! We also host different sustainable and agriculture & gardening workshops through the semester, as well as collaborate with other student organizations on campus like the Student Environmental Coalition and the GVSU Beekeeping Club!

Alternative Breaks Logo

Alternative Breaks

Alternative Breaks (AB) is a service organization that sends out week-long environmental and social service trips over spring and winter break. Members who go on trips will complete over 40+ hours of service and be led by our amazing Site Leaders! One of the main goals of AB is to bring what we learned on our trips back to Grand Valley's campus. We have monthly events that work to give back to our local community. We want to bring service back home to West Michigan! AB is not religiously affiliated and welcomes people of all faiths and beliefs. There are also opportunities to grow leadership skills by becoming a site leader or e-board member.

GVSU Soil and Water Conservation Society

SWCS has been involved in environmental clean-ups, habitat restoration efforts, and educational events. Our goals are to foster a community committed to protecting our natural resources and preparing young professionals for careers in the field. We welcome all students with a passion for and those who wish to learn more about natural resource conservation!
