Advisory Services

Grand Valley State University offers diverse advisory resources that focus on the success of its student population. You can find an advisor for various aspects of your academic career such as Professional, Program, and Academic Advisors. Scheduling can either be completed one-on-one with your advisor, or you can schedule an appointment anytime using GVSU's Navigate360 software. To schedule an appointment via Navigate360, log-in and select "schedule an appointment" in the top right-hand corner under the GVSU logo. Next, select the office that your advisor belongs to and the type of advisory service you are seeking out. Lastly, you will pick a date and determine what time works best for you to meet with an advisor. Once the appointment is finalize you will receive a confirmation email.

TRIO Advisor

TRIO program advisors prioritize holistic advising, which means focusing on all aspect of the college experience. Advisors with TRIO are responsible for providing academic and professional resources to facilitate success. This can range from assistance with course enrollment, finding internships, or a safe place to discuss personal struggles. 

Academic Advisor

Academic advisors primary objective is to ensure satisfactory academic progress towards graduation. Their services include course enrollment, major advising, and addressing academic holds on student accounts. Every student should meet with an academic advisor at least once a year to prevent any delays in graduation. 

Professional Advisor

Faculty advisors are assigned to each student based on their major. These advisors are able to help with career development and preparation for graduate studies that are discipline specific. While it is not required to meet with a faculty advisor, every student should periodically meet with their faculty advisor. Meeting with your faculty advisor consistently can produce recommendation letters and/or job experience in a desired career field.
