Tutoring Services
Tutoring at GVSU
There are several locations throughout campus that assist with course content outside of the classroom. This webpage contains some of the primary study and tutoring resources for students. If you are struggling in any class, it is important to integrate a professor's office hours into your study routine as they are the experts in your course materials. Outside of office hours, there are group and one-on-one settings for studying. If you prefer one-on-one tutoring with TRIO, please notify your TRIO advisor as soon as possible so selection can begin. We cannot guarantee a tutor in all topics, but will attempt to secure a tutor for the needed topic and develop a plan of action for improvement. Please see the tutoring resources below for additional assistance.
TRIO Tutoring
If you wait over one week to get a tutor, please contact Linda Rettig. TRIO will try to facilitate tutors as needed for various topics. This service can be helpful if campus tutoring services are limited or fully booked for an extended time. If we do not have a tutor for the specific topic, we will do our best to try to procure one for the student.

Structured Learning Assistance (SLA) is a form of peer-led Supplemental Instruction that is available in some high-risk courses at GVSU. Supplemental Instruction is a form of peer-tutoring that focuses on collaboration, group learning, and interaction to help students succeed in historically difficult courses with high rates of poor grades or withdrawals. In their SLA sessions, students are provided with course-specific learning and study strategies like note-taking, test-taking, reading skills, and more while also engaging in structured review and study time with a group of their peers.
